According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, more than 115 Americans die every day from opioid overdose. The addiction to and misuse of opioids and illicit drugs has become a serious national issue, affecting both public health and socioeconomic welfare. The CDC estimates the total economic impact of opioids in the United States to be $78.5 billion a year, including cost of healthcare, productivity loss, and criminal justice involvement.
The Other Drugs Workplace module can be used as an add-on to our prevention course Alcohol-Wise Workplace for on-boarding new employees or our intervention courses Marijuana 101 Workplace or Under the Influence Workplace. It addresses hallucinogens, heroin, opiates, sedatives, ecstasy, inhalants, synthetic marijuana, and commonly misused prescription painkillers.
Other Drugs Workplace provides employees with personalized feedback and addresses potential risks, effects, and consequences in a motivational interviewing style. Upon completion of the module, each employee receives a confidential My Summary Report which provides personalized feedback based on their individual responses. This helps the employee to recognize and reflect on their beliefs, behaviors, and experiences, and serves as a step toward behavior change and self-improvement.
